ऊंचाई में अत्यधिक भिन्नता के कारण हिमाचल की जलवायु परिस्थितियों में बहुत भिन्नता है । जलवायु दक्षिणी इलाकों में गर्म और उप-आर्द्र उष्णकटिबंधीय से अधिक ऊंचाई के साथ उत्तरी और पूर्वी पर्वत श्रृंखलाओं में ठंड, अल्पाइन और हिमनदों से भिन्न होती है । राज्य में धर्मशाला जैसे क्षेत्र हैं जहां बहुत भारी वर्षा होती है, साथ ही लाहौल और स्पीति जैसे क्षेत्र ठंडे और लगभग वर्षा रहित होते हैं ।
