पश्चिम में बांग्लादेश और पूर्व में म्यांमार के बीच स्थित है और उत्तर में त्रिपुरा, असम और मणिपुर से घिरा हुआ है, जो उत्तर-पूर्वी भारतीय राज्य मिजोरम से घिरा हुआ है । 21,087 वर्ग किलोमीटर के विभिन्न प्रकार के पहाड़ी इलाके मिजोरम “मिजोरम-मणिपुर-काचिन वर्षा वन” पारिस्थितिकी क्षेत्र का हिस्सा है, जिसमें इंडो-पैसिफिक क्षेत्र में सभी इको-क्षेत्रों की उच्चतम पक्षी प्रजातियों की समृद्धि है ।

इस क्षेत्र में खड़ी पहाड़ियों, गहरी घाटियों और विच्छेदित परिदृश्यों का प्रभुत्व है, जिनकी औसत ऊंचाई 900 मीटर है । पहाड़ी श्रृंखलाएं 40 से 50 मिलियन साल पहले बनाई गई थीं जब लौरासियन मुख्य भूमि उत्तर की ओर बहने वाले डेक्कन पठार से मिली थी । ये पहाड़ भारतीय, इंडो-मलायन और इंडोचाइनीज बायोटास (रोजर्स और पनवार 1988) के लिए एक बायोगोग्राफिक चौराहे हैं और उच्च जैविक विविधता की विशेषता है । (Birds name in Hindi)

मिजोरम के जंगल में पक्षियों के अलावा बाघ, एशियाई हाथी, बादल वाले तेंदुए, गौर, गोरल, हूलॉक गिब्बन, स्टंप-टेल्ड मैकाक, बिंटुरोंग और कई अन्य सहित कई खतरे वाले जानवरों की प्रजातियां हैं । लेकिन यह क्षेत्र केवल भारत में पाए जाने वाले कुछ महान दुर्लभताओं के साथ अपने पक्षियों के लिए भी प्रसिद्ध है ।

श्रीमती ह्यूम का तीतर (राज्य पक्षी), ब्लीथ का ट्रागोपैन, हरा पीफाउल(?), सफेद कपोलों तीतर, ब्लिथ की किंगफिशर, ब्लू पित्त, Moustached, धारीदार, लाल-गुस्सा, ब्राउन छाया हुआ है और Spot-breasted Laughingthrushes, कलगी Finchbill, जैतून और Flavescent Bulbuls, ओरिएंटल शौक, कील-बिल Wren-बकवादी और बैंगनी-गले सनबर्ड के कुछ ही रहे हैं कि प्रजातियों में पाया जा सकता है।
