बादलों में बर्डिंग – जो हरे रंग का कोट पहने हुए है, एक बादल वाली पहाड़ी पर बैठा है, वह मेघालय है, जो भारत के हरित राज्यों में से एक है और लोकप्रिय रूप से बादलों के घर के रूप में जाना जाता है । भारत गणराज्य के उत्तर पूर्वी कोने में अपने पड़ोसियों की तुलना में अपेक्षाकृत गीला और ठंडा होने के कारण, इस पहाड़ी प्रांत को पूर्व के स्कॉटलैंड के रूप में गौरव मिला है।

हरे-भरे शंकुधारी जंगलों से लेकर बांस की मोटी झाड़ियों तक, चूना पत्थर की गुफाओं से लेकर झरने तक, पहाड़ी क्रॉपलैंड के मील से लेकर निषिद्ध जंगलों तक तथा पक्षियों की बहुत विविधता इसे एक अद्वितीय क्षेत्र बनाती है । यह कोहरा छाया हुआ भूमि पृथ्वी पर सबसे नम स्थान (मावसिनराम) का घर भी है, इसके अलावा अजूबों के ढेर सारे आश्रय भी हैं । तीन अलग-अलग पहाड़ी श्रृंखलाओं खासी, गारो और जयंतिया का संयोजन, जंगलों के बीच, जुटाती धाराओं, अदम्य पहाड़ियों, पहाड़ी झीलों, पेड़ से ढकी ढलानों और हरी घाटियों के साथ, यह एक मनोरम गंतव्य है जो एक आकर्षक अपील है । (Birds name in Hindi)

मेघालय की अनदेखा प्रसन्नता अपने मेहमानों और मेजबान दोनों के लिए दिव्य आशीर्वाद है । 22,42,900 हेक्टेयर के भौगोलिक क्षेत्र के साथ, मेघालय सभी इंद्रियों में विविधता को परेशान करता है, चाहे वह स्थलाकृति हो, चाहे वह वनस्पति हो, चाहे वह जलवायु स्थिति हो या यह लोग और उनकी संस्कृतियां हों । मेघालय के वन अर्थात् उप-उष्णकटिबंधीय चीड़, उप-उष्ण कटिबंधीय ब्रॉडलीफ, उष्णकटिबंधीय गीला सदाबहार, उष्ण कटिबंधीय अर्ध-सदाबहार और उष्णकटिबंधीय नम पर्णपाती वन दो अलग-अलग जैव-भौगोलिक क्षेत्रों के अंतर्गत आते हैं ।
खासी और गारो हिल्स दोनों क्षेत्रों के पवित्र ग्रोव अभी तक एक और महत्वपूर्ण वन प्रकार हैं, जो विभिन्न प्रकार के जीवन रूपों के लिए एक स्वर्ग है । सरल शब्दों में मेघालय को प्रकृति का खजाना घर कहा जा सकता है; जीवन रूपों में विविधता है कि यह घरों और उत्तम परिदृश्य आत्म-व्याख्यात्मक है । यह ऑर्किड हो, यह स्तनधारी हो, या यह पक्षी हो, विविधता अद्वितीय है । स्तनधारियों में शामिल हैं; लेसर पांडा, इंडियन बाइसन, सीरो, स्लॉथ बीयर, बिंटुरॉन्ग, क्लाउडेड तेंदुआ, बाघ, तेंदुआ, हाथी, धीमी लोरिस, गोल्डन कैट, हूलॉक गिब्बन, आदि ।
भारत में पाए जाने वाले ऑर्किड की 1200 विभिन्न प्रजातियों में से 300 प्रकार केवल मेघालय में पाए जाते हैं, इसके अलावा सैकड़ों अन्य जंगली किस्मों के पौधों के अलावा दुर्लभ कीट खाने वाले घड़ा संयंत्र नेपेंथेस खासियाना भी शामिल हैं ।
