उत्तर प्रदेश की सीमा उत्तर की ओर नेपाल और तिब्बत और भारत में, उत्तर-पश्चिम में हिमाचल प्रदेश, पश्चिम में हरियाणा और केंद्र शासित प्रदेश दिल्ली, दक्षिण-पश्चिम में राजस्थान, दक्षिण में मध्य प्रदेश राज्य और पूर्व में बिहार से लगती है । इसकी राजधानी लखनऊ है। वैदिक काल में उत्तर प्रदेश मध्य प्रदेश के प्राचीन देश का हिस्सा बना। 16 वीं-18 वीं शताब्दी से, यह मुगल शासक बने रहे । अंग्रेजों ने धीरे-धीरे 19वीं सदी में पश्चिम बंगाल से अपनी शक्ति का विस्तार किया और 1857 में उत्तर प्रदेश अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ विद्रोह का मुख्य स्थल बन गया।

पूरे राज्य में एक उष्णकटिबंधीय मानसून जलवायु है । मैदानी इलाकों में, जनवरी का तापमान 12.5 डिग्री-17.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस और मई में 27.5 डिग्री-32.5 डिग्री सेल्सियस रिकॉर्ड होता है,अधिकतम 45 डिग्री सेल्सियस के साथ वर्षा पूर्व में 1,000-2,000 मिमी से पश्चिम में 600-1, 000 मिमी तक भिन्न होती है। (Birds name in Hindi)

उत्तर प्रदेश की आबादी 167 लाख है । ताजमहल उत्तर प्रदेश का सबसे प्रसिद्ध स्थल है । अन्य यादगार स्थानों की यात्रा करने के लिए आगरा और झांसी के ऐतिहासिक शहर हैं; वाराणसी, इलाहाबाद, मथुरा-वृंदावन के तीर्थ शहर; सारनाथ जैसे बौद्ध केंद्र। उत्तर प्रदेश (इसके विभाजन से पहले जिसने उत्तरांचल का नया राज्य बनाया था) अक्षांश 23 डिग्री 45′ और 31 डिग्री 30′ उत्तर और देशांतर 77 डिग्री 0′ और 85 डिग्री 0′ पूर्व के बीच स्थित है और इसका भौगोलिक क्षेत्र लगभग 294 लाख हेक्टेयर है ।
उत्तर में हिमालय की पर्वतमाला और दक्षिण में विंध्य से घिरा गंगा के मैदानों के साथ पश्चिम-पूर्व दिशा में एक लम्बी आकार में बीच में झूठ बोल रही है. भौतिक-ग्राफिक रूप से यह दो क्षेत्रों में विभाजित है । गंगा के मैदान: जिसमें अत्यधिक उपजाऊ जलोढ़ मिट्टी और समतल स्थलाकृति है जो कई तालाबों, झीलों और नदियों द्वारा टूटी हुई है दक्षिणी पठार: जिसमें कठोर चट्टान का स्तर है और पहाड़ियों, मैदानों, घाटियों और पठार की एक विविध स्थलाकृति है । पूरे क्षेत्र में पानी की उपलब्धता सीमित है। पक्षियों के लिए कुछ सबसे अच्छे हॉटस्पॉट नीचे दिए गए हैं।
