पहाड़ों में बढ़ते हुए, ब्रॉडलीफ वन पश्चिमी हिमालयी सबलपाइन शंकुधारी जंगलों में ग्रेड करते हैं । पेड़ की रेखा के ऊपर उत्तर-पश्चिमी हिमालयी अल्पाइन झाड़ी और घास के मैदान पाए जाते हैं । राज्य के पूर्वोत्तर का अधिकांश भाग काराकोरम-पश्चिम तिब्बती पठार अल्पाइन स्टेपी द्वारा कवर किया गया है । उच्चतम ऊंचाई के आसपास, कोई वनस्पति नहीं है, बस रॉक और ice.In पश्चिम कश्मीर लुभावनी पहाड़ी दृश्यों, स्पष्ट झीलों, रसीला वनस्पति और शानदार जंगलों के साथ एक सुंदर हिमालयी घाटी है ।

राजधानी श्रीनगर (1,730 मीटर) अपनी नहरों, हाउसबोटों और मुगल उद्यानों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है । भारत के जाने-माने पक्षी विज्ञानी सलीम अली ने एक बार कश्मीर को प्रवासी पक्षियों के लिए धरती पर स्वर्ग कहा था । वास्तव में स्थानीय लोक निवासी प्रजातियों के बजाय प्रवासी आगंतुकों के बारे में अधिक जानते हैं और घाटी में संगठित पक्षी लगभग न के बराबर है, भले ही यह एक समृद्ध जैव विविधता का घर है जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में पक्षी प्रजातियां शामिल हैं, जिनमें से कई अद्वितीय हैं कश्मीर।
